Käthe Kollwitz and Berlin A Search for Traces on the 150th Anniversary of the Artist’s Birth

Exhibition

The graphic artist and sculptor Käthe Kollwitz (18671945) is still regarded as the most famous German woman artist, and her oeuvre has achieved international recognition. Her monument to grieving parents in the Deutscher Soldatenfriedhof (German Soldiers' Cemetery) in Vladslo, Belgium, is considered to be the most significant sepulchral sculpture in the 20th century. To commemorate what would have been Kollwitz' 150th birthday, the Galerie Parterre is dedicating an exhibition to the exceptional graphic artist and sculptor in close proximity to where she used to live. On display are mostly loans from the estate of the artist, which are preserved in the Archive Collection at the Akademie der Künste. A publication accompanies the exhibition and a series of related special events will take place.

In cooperation with the archives of the Akademie der Künste, Berlin, and the Käthe Kollwitz Museum Köln (Cologne).
