Uncertain States – DISKURSE Chantal Mouffe: "Artistic Practices in Times of Post-Politics"

Chantal Mouffe is a Belgian political theorist and professor at the University of Westminster in London. The 1943 belgian born political scientist found worldwide recognition with her articles around political theories. Her research focuses on antagonism: Mouffe rejects the idea that consensus should be the end-product of every democratic process. The democratic interests, among them artistic interventions- should be heard. Her speech focuses on the importance of artistic practises in times of post-politics.

Chantal Mouffe is Professor of Political Theory at the Centre for the Study of Democracy at the University of Westminster in London. She has taught and researched in many universities in Europe, North America and South America and she is a corresponding member of the Collège International de Philosophie in Paris. DISKURSE, a series of lectures and discussions, addresses today's key issues. Europe is facing challenges such as xenophobia, Islamophobia and anti-Semitism. What are the causes of this new fundamentalism? How can the growth of right-wing populism and racism be curbed and overcome? How can immigration policies be improved? And what role does art have to play in coping with the crisis?

The 12 lectures by prominent representatives of migration studies, political science, sociology, philosophy, and art scholarship will be accompanied and commented on by the young team from Polis180, the grassroots think tank for foreign and European policy.
