Berlin Art Prize – Jubilee Endowment 1848/1948

The Großer Kunstpreis Berlin (Berlin Art Prize: Grand Prize) is awarded annually by the Academy’s six sections on a rotating basis. This year the Film and Media Arts Section has awarded the Grand Prize to Turkish filmmaker Emin Alper. In his films, Emin Alper presents a profound picture of a Turkish society rent by everyday violence.

The recipients of the other Berlin Art Prizes are Axel Anklam (Visual Arts) whose sculptural works resonate with music and poetry, Francisco Mangado (Architecture), a Spanish architect with an international reputation, Elena Mendoza (Music), a Berlin-based composer from Sevilla, the author Annett Gröschner (Literature), Valery Tscheplanowa (Performing Arts), a member of the Residenztheater Munich ensemble since 2013, and Greek director and producer Athina Rachel Tsangari (Film and Media Arts).

The Berlin Art Prize – Jubilee Endowment 1848/1948 was founded by the Berlin City Council in 1948 to commemorate the 1848 March Revolution. The prizes will be awarded by Michael Müller, Berlin’s governing mayor, and Jeanine Meerapfel, the president of the Akademie der Künste.
