On the Architectural History of the East German Akademie der Künste
The history of the East German Akademie der Künste is also a story of constant shortage of space, difficult working conditions and inadequate accommodation of the archives. Urban planning was conducted and the perspective plans were drawn up for a representative building on the square where the Akademie once stood (what is now Gendarmenmarkt). A new archive building was realised at Robert-Koch-Platz 10, the only purpose-built archive building in the GDR. The move began 30 years ago, an anniversary that is to be honoured with a foyer exhibition.
