What the Body Remembers. Dance Heritage Today Christoph Winkler: Ernest Berk – The Complete Expressionist
An exploration of the dance and musical oeuvre of Ernest Berk, a nearly forgotten artist, oscillates between documentary reconstruction and contemporary inspiration. Berk was a key figure for experimental formats between concrete and electronic music, improvised performance and choreography. In an exemplary study, Christoph Winkler questions the Western canon of Modern Dance with its gaps and interpretations. In The Complete Expressionist Winkler takes on the long-overdue reconstruction of some of Ernest Berk’s choreography and compositions. Five of Berk’s works are reinterpreted in collaboration with 11 dancers and musicians from groupA, TOMMI TOKYO & SAyAkA BOTANIC.
