Roberto Ciulli. Der fremde Blick

Roberto Ciulli, born in Milan in 1934, is one of the European directors who have helped to shape contemporary German theatre. The founder and artistic director of the Theater an der Ruhr stands for artistic work that questions the truths of theatre not tied to culture or language: “You have to dive very deep to unearth the treasure of the subtext”. His echo sounder remains Der fremde Blick [The Foreign Gaze] – the title of his memoirs published by Alexander Verlag Berlin, which the doyen of intercultural theatre talks about with Navid Kermani.
