Red (Hunger) is a love story. I love to eat you up. I want to eat you up. Senthuran Varatharajah takes this cannibalistic dimension in our language of love seriously in his second novel. With lyrical intensity and philosophical rigour, he tells of the encounter between two lovers that ends in an act of cannibalism. “A grandiose venture, and an imposition, in the best sense”, says his interlocutor Carolin Emcke.
