Jutta Brückner: The melancholic feminist and the old white man
Alien (Ridley Scott, 1979) and Hungerjahre (Jutta Brückner, 1980) deal with different variants of motherhood. While Hungerjahre depicts the conflict within a mother-daughter relationship in the early Federal Republic, this conflict is seemingly disposed of in outer space in Alien. In Jutta Brückner's new book, the films become the exemplary expression of an open dialogue about the fates of masculinity and femininity.
