The day of open monuments
The building at Pariser Platz has been used by the Akademie der Künste since 1907, interrupted by the National Socialists who claimed it for themselves from 1937 to 1945. As the home of the GDR’s Academy of Arts, it was located close to the Berlin Wall. Since 1993, it has been the seat of the unified Akademie, and since 2005 a new glass building has surrounded the historic rooms. Traces of the past can be found throughout the building as speaking witnesses to history.
