Winter Music – Echoes of Tomorrow
“Winter Music” 2024 invites you to a weekend of sonic renewal and remembrance. At the centre of the festival is the idea of building a bridge between generations and creating a multi-layered image of the present.
On the one hand, composers such as York Höller and Ernstalbrecht Stiebler, who have combined traditional acoustic instrumental music with innovative technologies in a visionary way, will be honoured, and recently deceased Akademie members such as Peter Eötvös and Thomas Kessler will be commemorated. On the other hand, new members such as Liza Lim, George Lewis and Christopher Fox will be represented with current works that boldly look to the future, and young ensembles such as the Fabrik Quartet will be invited.
Special highlights are two panel discussions during which the audience will have the opportunity to experience twelve participating members of the Akademie der Künste, including many newcomers.
Curated by Clara Iannotta & Sarah Nemtsov with works by Christopher Fox, York Höller, Thomas Kessler, Christina Kubisch, Liza Lim, Annette Schlünz, Ernstalbrecht Stiebler, Hanna Hartman, Peter Eötvös, Annesley Black, Chiyoko Szlavnics, Trond Reinholdtsen, George Lewis and Walter Zimmermann.
